What does this lens give you over the 'nearly free' kit lens at 30mm?

It isn't that much smaller, lighter or faster.

Seems designed for the aps-c nex rather than the mFT. Even the effective field of view it offers - 60mm on FF - isn't that interesting at f2.8, apart from being covered by the kit lens.

So, demand and pricing isn't likely to hold even it is better optically and focuses faster than the kit lens. Even that's yet to be seen. So, I'll recommend you wait for the actual lens availability and real-life usage in addition to any early reviews. You may also find it selling for much less by then.

Of course, it may turn out to be an absolute classic that's far far better than the kit lens on IQ- has no real CA or distortion, plus amazing resolution and corner-to-corner sharpness. And also focuses way faster, silently. Plus, Sigma manage to get a very consistent product line going for it, with almost all copies matching up to the hand-picked early review samples. What are the chances of that?
