The image doesn't look photo realistic. It could be the processing. To the OP: Am I correct in believing the beak is hanging over the fence? If so, at f8, one would expect the fence to be in focus too (admittedly I'm not confident in my presumptions of distances in this image). Maybe you didn't PP the fence as heavily as the bird itself? What I am getting at is maybe you didn't quite nail focus and used some tools in your editor to sharpen up things.
