Nikkor 80-200mm - get or not get

I am considering to purchase a used Nikkor 80-200 for $680.

I have D70 and thinking to upgrade to D300 or D400 when it comes out. Ken Rockwell says not to get this lens for DX format. I do not have a particular use for this lens, but interested in it as part of a package deal. I might use it for far-away shots.

Do I want to get it in order to receive a $100 off or skip it out?
