Of course a brand new, compact lens is going to be more expensive than an ancient 50mm.

My Olympus 45mm is way better quality wide open than my Olympus OM 50mm f1.8 (a very well regarded 50mm), and is around half the overall size with adapter.

Even newer cheap 50mm f1.8 don't compare well, check the Canon 50mm f1.8

What you're paying your $300 for is an overall better lens, not just autofocus.

Did Olympus just pull a scam and manage to release the worlds most expensive nifty fifty while being praised for low pricing?

Autofocus worth the 300$?

Point and case, my GF2 with a 50mm F/1.8

feel like the micro four thirds lens manufactures are getting away with murder with their pricing, they price lens like the "equivalent focal length" is the actual focal length.
