How the EM5 makes my E520 work better.
Feb 17, 2012

Ok not really. But the promise and prospect of the EM5-which registers at about 93% on my "Personal Best Camera Available" scale, has me taking a harder look at how I can squeeze the most out of my E520 for my style of photography.

Why is that? Simple: I can't afford the EM5 and m4/3 lenses I would like to have. And I can't even blame it on having a disapproving CFO (my fiance would say "If you really want it, and have the money, then buy it honey!" I love that woman).

So, until I can upgrade, I've decided to work my E520-and my own skills with it-a little more intently to see what I can do to squeak out cleaner ISO 800 or ISO 1600 files, or get a little more DR out of high contrast scenes.

The result is I'm taking more care with how I craft my images than I have been of late. I'm also being more creative in previsualizing results.

Anybody else in my position, wanting prime rib but on a ground round budget? Do you feel that this leads you to work harder with the gear you have, or do you become a bit discouraged at having to wait to purchase an upgrade?

Some people operate cameras. Others use them to create images. There is a difference.
