Tokina 16-28 2.8 vs Canon 16-35 2.8 II
Feb 16, 2012

Trying to make up my mind between the two. By photozone.de. the Tokina is optically superior to the Canon (the comparison charts on thedigitalpicture.com show the same), but the build quality and operation is most likely better on the Canon. Further, quality control issues have been reported with the Tokina, which mainly concerned decentering issues. The tokina has a bulb-like front element, unlike the Canon so filters are impossible on the Tokina.

I had a Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 for my ex-Canon 60D. Have a 5D MII now. I was very pleased with the Tokina lens, especially for the price of $800. The 16-28 is $1000 vs $1600 for the Canon.

Any recommendations? Is there anyone that owned both lenses?
