It definitely looks like an AF problem, and not a star tracking problem. I have the same problem myself.
You may be able to get it to focus on something very bright -- Jupiter is up these nights in the Northern Hemisphere, and my camera can usually focus on that -- and then lock the focus. I also use manual focus, again picking something very bright to focus on. In a pinch, you might be able to focus on something very far away, like mountains on the horizon.
I think manual is the best way to go, and practice focusing on a bright star.
By the way, Orion is upside down!
