Panasonic 100-300 OIS on or off?

I think I'll try the lens with the OIS off unless the shutter speed drops below 1/800 and see how it goes. I have seen the link to panasonic advising to use mode 2 for still pictures. I have tried mode 1 and 2 and haven't seen any differences. The rationale for mode 2 seems somewhat faulty. Panasonic says the lens block only starts to move after the shutter is pressed. There is some inertia to overcome so I suspect there is a bit of a lag. With mode 1 the block is always moving so half the time it is already moving in the right directionand no inertial lag.
