The D5100 would be a waste of time. It's better than the D5000 but not worth the "upgrade."

The D7000 is a great camera for sure, I upgraded from an entry Nikon DSLR to the D7000. While it's features are great, I can't say that I actually justify the price difference over a D90. I've used my friend's D90 a few times and I do feel a little bitter about it. If you can save yourself a little cash, you won't regret grabbing a D90, but it's no big deal really.

That said, I'm very happy with the D7000 otherwise. It's a great option to upgrade from the D90. Just don't let the features send you drooling for disappointment.

My personal belief is you should grab either the D90 or D7000 instead of the D5100. They're great cameras.
