D800E on order, now what lenses to get? Nikkor and/or Zeiss?
Feb 10, 2012

Glad to soon be back in Nikon-land. Loved all my Nikon film cams and lenses especially my F2as, Nikkormat, FM, Nikkor 24, Nikkor 180, Micro Nikkor 55 and Micro Nikkor 105.

I have already sold my 5D mk II, 35/1,4L, 135/2,0L, 400/5,6L and 16-35/2,8L.

I was set to get a M9 and 3-4 lenses.

What made me change my mind is the M9 slow and old electronics, Kodak old CCD, really crazy high Leica prices and perpetual non-availability of the lenses that I want.

I want top quality, I really hate ca and fringing,
To keep it as simple and light as possible, if possible max 4 lenses.

My priorities:

1. Family and travel, 9 year old son plays tennis and floor ball, both mostly indoors sports in Sweden.
2. Architecture, people, landscape, nature, wildlife and some birding.

3. Macro and perhaps astro-photography with a future Celestron/Meade 10-12 inch telescope.

I have been locking into this Zeiss trio.

Zeiss Distagon T* 21/2,8 ZF.2,
Zeiss Distagon T* 35/2,0 ZF.2,
Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 100/2,0 ZF.2

This tread has influenced me most: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/860134

Nikkor 24-70/2,8? An alternative or perhaps a complement for action and sport?

As I see it the Nikkor 24-70/2,8 offers a relatively handy, AF, high IQ, weather sealed all in one solution.

I have read many rave reviews for the Nikkor 24-70.

Is it so good that it can even replace the 3 Zeiss primes 21, 35, 100 regarding: resolution, CA, distortions, rendering, micro-contrast and clarity?

Have anyone here used these lenses? Is there really a notable difference?

Best Regards
Pierre
