If the D800 perform better or equal to the D700, I really don't see strong reason not to buy the new one except the file size concern. For $300 more, you really got a lot over the D700. I am not a pixel crazy guy at all and in fact happy with my D700 (even the Canon 20D), but the D800 does seems a huge upgrade in every sense, biggest I've ever seen for all brand/model.
I think Nikon did a good job on this one.
BTW, is the sensor Nikon's own, or get from Sony?
