Do we still need large, optically fast lenses?
Feb 9, 2012

It seems there is a lot of discussion about the impossibility of making optically fast lenses in a size that is compatible with the mFT.

My question is, do we really need them now?

With ISOs to 12800 and 5 stop IBIS, the speed would seem moot.

So that leaves bokeh - but it seems more and more that bokeh and sharpness are controlled by software - either in camera for jpg's or out of camera for PP.

So, are these large optically fast lenses really needed now?
