What I was saying was put on a straight 300 or 400 and stay with that. If a bird should come in real close, well then so be it. Get 'em when it flies off.

I know several bird photographers who use zooms that go out to 300 or 400, and when I ask them how often they shoot at maximum focal length the answer is always 98% of the time or similar. So if that's the case why not just stick on a prime and be done with it?

For myself I get around that predicament by keeping a second 7D body on hand with a 70-200 on it. I know not everyone is going to do that but it works for me. heh heh

Anyway, no big deal, my original point was just a suggestion.
