I have a copy of the Minolta 24-105mm f3.5-4.5 (D) and use it on my A55.

A good feature is that it only closes down to f/4.5 at the long end of the zoom; my Nikon 18-105 closes to f/5.6.

Wideopen it is not as good as the Nikon 18-105 in the centre but much softer at the edges. Once closed by one stop, it is about as good as the Nikon lens in the centre but still softer at the edges. It suffers from a bit oc CA when wide open too.

However, for me, the zoom range and sturdy construction still make it a often used walk-about lens.

In summary I would say it is a good lens for the price (I paid UKĀ£99 for my new 'old stock' copy), but that price means that you should not expect stellar performance. If you acecpt it for what it is , a cheap walk-around lens, you will not be disapointed.
