D800 images for web and print

Dumb amateur question. How do you prevent high resolution images that come from camera's like the new D800 from looking "too sharp"? I don't know another way to say it, but you notice it especially with small lines or patterns like hair in a portrait or tree branches in a landscape. They look 'pixelly'. Will large files (36mp) have to be downsized to look right? And how would you do that? I have the D700 now and haven't really worried about it with web or print. Does anyone know what I mean?
