OM-D's lack of built-in flash -- Oly actually recommends one...

...for use with a big flash in the accessory shoe.

I was just reading the manual for the Olympus's FL36R and it specifically mentions -- and illustrates in a diagram -- how you could use the flip up flash of your camera to provide a highlight in the eyes of a subject you are illuminating by bounce flash with the FL36R in the hot shoe of your camera.

Not with the OM-D (or, indeed, my E-PL3).

And it's true -- that can make for a very nice effect. I have done it many a time with my Kodak P880 prosumer and its dedicated P20 flash. Exactly like the diagram in the Oly manual.

The lack of built-in flip-up flash on the OM-D is a stupid omission.
