Also, what painter did you have in mind that uses a blouse color the same as the wallpaper color? I've looked at painters from Vermeer to Chuck Close, and can't seem to find one that does this.

I haven't blurred the top in Photoshop, that's just the depth of field. I have blended the top with background, and I take your point with the sharp background. I still do this because I like the 3d effect it creates. Also, its different.

With regards classical painters, you may or may not find them using this blending effect.tbh its irrelevant as I never intended to copy, instead come up with my own style which I feel I have done.
