Canon Colors, Fuji Colors, Olympus JPEGS... A Camera's Look

I'd like to hear some opinions on some of the descriptive words thrown around on the forums here. Do cameras truly have a "look" or do these claims simply take on a life of their own?

For color quality, many throw around Canona and Fuji.

For JPEGS, Olympus is apparently very good.

Sigma Cameras have "three dimensionality".

Panasonic is more color "neutral".

Leica... don't get me started. Sharp, contrast heavy, mystic...

Could the discerning viewer really tell an image apart from others by brand? Or are these just the ruminations of gear fans? After shooting with canons I myself feel that I can recognize "canon colors" at times.
