S5 tamron lens dies
If you don't need f/2.8, consider a nice used Nikon 16-85. Higher IQ and a more useful zoom range.
I replaced my 16-85 with the Nikon 24-85 f/2.8-4.0 macro for even higher image quality, indistinguishable from the 24-70 f/2.8 at f/8 and smaller. I added a Tokina 12-24 for the wide end but have yet to use it other than for some holiday snaps.
Agreed, what works for me may not be your cup of tea but I've found that the higher IQ and greater depth of field of some of the "sleeper" lenses works best for me.
I use these lenses and a couple others on a Fuji S3 Pro and a Nikon D300s.
