D3100 or D5000?

I'm looking to upgrade from a SLR to a DSLR. I've been doing some heavy research on the D3100 and D5000. I'm still very new to photography, therefore my need for an entry level. My main focus is to take really nice pictures. The video isn't important to me. So I'm looking for people's thoughts on these two Nikons.
