I don't yet understand if/what I'd be losing by doing this. But assuming I would gain the ability to continue using my DX lenses in crop mode AND use my FF lenses in either mode without losing anything vs the D7000 then I would be tempted to do the same.

I hope the D800 is a little bit smaller than the D700 though (I think I read that it would be but I'm not sure).
