Silica gel or other recommendation to protect gear?

Thanks for the very helpful replies, and especially links to those very good web sites.

I have been following that up and will do a DIY solution with the airtight container and silica gel.

One thing I found during research was the there is a new type of silica gel that is orange that doesn't have the toxic, carcinogenic stuff that the older blue/pink silica has in it. I am looking at getting the reusable ones that you can dry out in the oven, and I wasn't keen on heating carcinogenic stuff in my oven. but I won't get mine from Amazon since there is no Amazon Australia (I wish there was) so I'm finding a local supplier.
