Had high hope...
In reply to Sam Bennett, Jan 18, 2012

I had high hopes for the G1X when it was announced, but after looking over all of the hands-ons, previews, etc it has become obvious that Canon just plunked a large sensor and lens into a older G series body.

Canon didn't bother to try competing with their competition in the areas that are making mirrorless systems popular. The G1X still has slow AF and a poor OVF like the older G series and the overall speed is incredibly slow with continuous AF at 0.7fps and 2.5s shot to shot times in JPEG. RAW times are even worse. And now we know the video is very poor as well. Just disappointed.

Well, so much for the inevitability of Canon producing a CSC. As I've been saying over and over, CSC's are just one solution to the problem identified by MFT - people wanting dSLR-like quality and performance in a compact body. The X100 was another solution, and now Canon has introduced exactly what I've predicted they'd release for years now - a G-series camera based on a dSLR-sized sensor:

Just had to rub it in.
