I think that the more expensive the item, the more I want to buy it locally, because, by definition, I don't pay them until it's physically in my hands. There are a lot of scammers in the mail order world, and B&H never charges significantly less than full retail, so all I'm saving is tax.

Of course it depends on the tax rate, too - here in South Florida we only pay 6-7% which is quite low compared to many other states.

Since local inventory is indeed diminishing, I thought I'd put in a plug for Electric Avenue in Miami [ electricavenue.net ] - much to my shock, they had all the high end gear I asked about in stock including D3Ss! Danny, the friendly sales guy, was very patient in letting me try it all out, too. So not every store has given up on providing inventory. Prices are comparable to B&H or even a bit lower.
