Re: Local verses mail order - I chose local

I was in the same position as you in late 2011. I wanted a D3x badly and I was pretty sure my local camera store could come through for me, but I checked B&H and Adorama. Neither large retailer would special order me one, or assure me that I could even get one. I liked the idea of no sales tax since I was across state borders but I really feel that supporting my local shop was more important.

So, I ordered through them and got my D3x in 2 weeks, right at the start of 2012. Yes I paid $600 more in taxes but it was worth it to support local. I am not a full time pro, so I have the money for toys and like to take pictures. Everytime I walk into that local shop, I am quickly greeted with great service and pretty much get anything I want. So, personally I always go local unless I am in a rush and they don't have it.

Yes I know, I could have waited and ordered a D800 for probably less money, but it's not official yet, is it Anyway I am happy with my D3x.
