I view the G1X concept as a great one. In the theme of how I'd use it (for travel, etc.) I already traded my normal zoom in for a Sigma 30 1.4 considering the pluses of the smaller/faster/GREAT IQ of the prime greater than the pluses of zoom. Many would say to have both, but I'm an extreme-minimalist and hate having anything that collects dust.
With that in mind what would you say about a G1X vs. a Canon T1i, for example, with a 30mm Sigma?
Thanks for all thoughts. My wife's vote already is to not spend any more money.
Depends on what you value your 30/1.4 for. If it's just small size for a travel package (though the Sigma is quite a bit "fatter" and heavier than the kit zoom lens), the GX1 would do fine, but it won't give you anywhere near the DOF at the same focal length or low light capability (for candid low light people photography). With the newer technologies, though, the sensor may have slightly lower noise at high ISO.
