60D: 30mm or 50mm?
I got my 60D with the kit 18-200 which I like for a first lens. The guy at the camera shop then talked me into a 50 1.4f as my 2nd lens and you're right it's limited. It takes amazing flower narrow depth of field shots and great head shots, but it's bad for video.
I wish I'd gotten a 24 or 28mm as my first prime. So my advice is to skip the 50mm.
If you still want to get a 50 after a 24/28, get the 1.8mm it's a good price.
That said, the lens I want next is the Tokina 11-16, which is fantastic for video and a great ultra-wide with better f-stop than Canon or Sigma.
Here's a lens guide for newbies I wrote which may help you:
Note how much the prices has come down since October, wow.
