DIY-ers, Make this? Photek SoflighterII shoemount light stand/umbrella adapter

I purchased a Photeck Softlighter and did not realize that you have to get an adapter for the shoe mounted flash to work. From what I can tell it looks like the sock is gone and there is a velcro slit in it's place. Is this something that can be modified instead of spending more money?
