18 digital cameras! Is this really necessary?

Fujifilm may have come up with some truly wonderful and advanced camera and sensor designs, for example, their stylish X series, and at least three variations (and improvements) on the basic Bayer CFA design... but I find it astounding that any camera manufacturer can release 18 models within just a few weeks!

Personally, I see this as a massive waste of money and resources. Does the world really need this many camera models to choose from? Couldn't Fuji have put that effort into other useful pursuits?
