Actually, the Hartblei lens shifts in one direction, but you can rotate the entire assembly to orient the shift in any direction as opposed to simply up and down.

As to the optical quality, I don't have a problem with my 80mm lens but I'd expect a Canon lens costing three times more than I paid to have better optical quality. No doubt it does.

In any case, the Hartblei lenses appear to now be available only with Zeiss optics in medium format and not from Hartblei, so the only way to try a Hartblei Super-rotator for a "35mm" camera is to get or borrow a used one.
