Epson R3000 'patchy surface" problem.

Question from amateur, not pro!
I have just upgraded from my (dead!) R1800 to an R3000. The R1800 had a Gloss Optimiser ink that coated over everything, including blown-out highlights, to give an even sheen. The R3000 doesn't have this, and blown-out highlights, where no ink is applied to the white paper, leave a patchy look to the print (whether Gloss or semi-gloss). I know the answer is to avoid the blow-outs, but this is not always possible in what I shoot. Is there another way to solve this problem! I'm using Epson Premium papser.
