Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Question

Could I please ask a question of owners of this lens?. When the lens is set to AF Auto (A) is the focus ring still able to be moved manually or should it be locked in this setting? I'd appreciate if you would check yours and let me know. Thanks
