is photoshop necessary?
Jan 7, 2012

Hi, I'm getting into serious photography. I've done it casually for years but am starting to book clients and am building a professional portfolio. Thing is, I'm still a student and have limited funds(my lens lust just eats this up). I've bought lightroom, and it is quite decent and I love the nondestructive editing. Previously I was using aperture but lightroom seems much more eh? professional? and faster.

Do I need to invest in photoshop? Is it accessible for novices? I'm doing my third paid gig on sunday, a glamour/fashion shoot of some young ladies. If I can make things more flattering via photoshop that would be a +. It is less than 200 for students. so ?

Also, what is the take on lightroom presets vs the nik suite? I've used it before, but I hate how Nik bloats my hard drive and makes changes permanent. Worthwhile investment or not? also not expensive for students.

Thanks for the advice guys,
Rob
