New sensor pattern from Fuji

Dear resident sensorphiles/sensorologists (uh?), what would you make out of this?
From a French "sneak preview" of the imminent Fuji APS-C mirroless (
; ):
"Grâce à une nouvelle disposition des photosites colorés par motifs aléatoires de six (au lieu de quatre réguliers sur la classique mosaïque de Bayer), on peut se dispenser du traditionnel filtre anti-moiré…"
Right now my rudimentary take is that, while a Bayer layout implies a repeating pattern or "tile" with 4 photosites (RGBG), a Fuji X-trans layout uses a 6-photosite tile, and --this is the interesting part-- the photosites are randomly ordered within each tile as to dispense with the AA filter.
Is it a true innovation, what trade-offs could it imply, are there precedents...?
