Are you a candidate for the new 85 1.8?

I was kind of supprised, I didn't think this was coming, I have been thinking of doing the prime thing, just for my D700, 3 FLs come to mind as favorites, a 35 a 85, and a 135mm.I have the 35 2.0, can't justify the 1.4 version, and I have a old 85 2.0 Ai, don't use very much, I just can't focus quick enough, and a 135, which i don't have except in a zoom.

I will be watching how the 85 performs and it might be the "ticket" i'm looking for, right now I dug out my 28 105 Nikkor to replace my 24 120vr, and using Tokina 17 3.5, I'm quite happy.

I had been pricing the new 24 120 and can't justify its price either. Do you folks know of any other "tricks" Nikon has up its sleeve? I know a 70 200f4 has been talked about, and of course the 80 400 has been needing upgrading since day one.

But I'm impressed with the 85 right now, putting it with my 17, and 35 and I think I may have a "kit' thats right on target.
