The new Elph 310 HS has the same problem. I find almost every photo taken in Auto mode disappointing due to the preference to use high ISO rather than flash (or even high ISO with the flash). I've switched to using Program mode, but it doesn't help matters that Canon doesn't have the Auto ISO limit options that other cameras have (e.g., Auto ISO 400 max).
