Gerry - I appreciate your detailed and comprehensive contributions in this forum and I'd never try to say the K 5 doesn't keep promise in any respect.

Of course the user ratings are subject to very individual expectations and expectations can differ extremely.

I.e. the main reason why I didn't upgrade instantly to a K 5 was indeed, that with my range of mid priced lenses from Pentax, Sigma and Tamron, there was a obvious loss in IQ when I replaqced the K10 by a K7. Nevertheless I kept the K7, always shot in RAW and so the final results looked indeed similar to the K10 with a much higher DR and resolution.

Now - when I made some tests eith the K5 and also compared other samples, I felt the same procedure was necessary if I'd step up from K7 to K5. The out of camera results of the K5 simply looked artifical and not very sharp.

I didn't want to waste that much time and I don't want to invest in the meanwhile extremely high prized Pentax Primes so a friend lend me his EOS 1Ds II.

What shall I say - even the jpgs direct from the camera looked simply amazing and a used body was cheaper (early 2011) than the K5. Canon also offers a couple of sealed zoom lenses at the price of a Pentax prime (I don't need the large apertures).

Now that the K5 sells at half of the launch price this makes a different story.
I will give it a try and see if some of my lenses can compete.
