NPR runs my photo on Christmas
Dec 27, 2011

A Christmas gift from NPR all around. They ran my photo in conjunction with a story on Christmas Day. I'm doubly proud, since the NPR story itself was about a record that I produced entitled Marvelous Fantasy.

The shot illustrates something of what you can do with a D3s. This was shot at ISO12800 and pushed one stop in post. Equivalent ISO25600, and no pattern noise. Dark-skinned subject. Lens was 135DC at f/3.5. I find this lens really begins to shine right at that aperture. [Wish they hadn't cropped it though.] Shot at the session.

Some might be thinking that the deck was stacked. I got the picture in because I'm the producer. Heh. This is partly true, however out of the photographs done for the session, the rest were taken by Larry Fink. Competition was steep on that count.

Harold O'Neal is an amazing guy with many talents...pianist, kickboxer, breakdancer, all world class. If any of you like piano like Keith Jarrett, this is the new thing.
