Need Backup Firewire Drive Recommendation

Perhaps a little off the usual topic here in this forum. But, I respect the advice I get here. My Maxtor "OneTouch4" firewire drive that I use to backup my MacBook Pro (via SuperDuper) has failed (again). This is about the 3rd Maxtor that has died on me. (wonder if there's a quality issue here?). I am looking for about 1 TB of capacity. What brand(s) do you all use and trust?

EDIT: I am not an expert in hardware, my 2009-vintage 15inch MBP is firewire 800 and the cable that I use to connect to the external HD is a 6-pin (firewire 400?) if that helps. I'd rather not sink a whole lot of cash into new cable configurations.
