How much IQ do you want anyway?
Dec 22, 2011

More 30X40 inch prints back today. And they are all fine. I really do think at base ISOs this IQ thing was cracked ages ago, given a decent lens.

For landscape work I use a GND that, I think, gives me about a stop of sky darkening. I'll maybe take down the highlights (normally sky) another stop and boost the dark areas (normally the foreground) another stop. At base ISO any modern sensor will handle that with no problems at all.

As for the res, E330, E3, D3, GH2, all fine.

No rational human being who wants to see a picture (as opposed to a camera buff) is ever going to see a difference, even at poster size.

For me, the trick now is to make the cameras portable, quick to use and focus (and there's a dichotomy at the moment, because mirrorless is more portable, dSLRs are faster - prioritise to taste).

And some people have a real need to shoot in low light, and then the game changes.

But if you are shooting fairly slow moving things in reasonable light, we're done here, aren't we, folks?
