I need some professional opinions....regarding purchasing a D700

My husb wants to buy me a full frame camera and a new lens for my birthday/Christmas present. I am in quite a quandary. I presently shoot with a D7000 with the 24-70 2.8 lens on my camera most of the time. I have read the reviews on the D700 until I am blue in the face and I still am not sure what to do.

I shoot mostly portraits with occasional landscape or group shots. I avoid weddings if at all possible!! I do have two grandaughters in sports so I find myself needing a longer zoom than the 24-70. Would the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II Lens be one to consider??? Considering the lenses I have listed below would the expense even be worth it???

50mm 1.4
35mm 1.8
18-200mm 3.5-5.6
70- 300mm 4.5-5.6

Can someone enlighten me as to what I should or should not consider???
