Anybody ditched 4/3 for m4/3 and regretted it?
Dec 21, 2011

Pardon me but i'm going to ramble on about trying to make a decision regarding jumping into m4/3 with both feet.

In the past year, I've been buying up m4/3 gear, mostly financed by selling 4/3 DSLR gear. I've amassed a nice collection of m4/3 stuff (E-PL2 + 14-42, 14mm, 20mm, 45mm, 9-18mm) and i'm really loving it. I also still have a significant amount of 4/3 gear (E-3, E-30, 50mm, 12-60mm, 50-200mm SWD).

My most recent purchase was a GH2 + 14-140 kit and that put me $1000 in the hole so I need to sell some more 4/3 gear to pay for it. With the right lens, the AF on the GH2 is blazing fast, which started to make me wonder whether I need a DSLR at all.

I may have sealed the verdict yesterday when I pulled out my backdrop and strobist-style lighting setup to take some quick family portraits:

I expected I would do this shoot with the E-3 + 50mm and while I started with the E-3 I decided to try the E-PL2 + 45mm for a few frames and then never went back to the E-3. I did shoot RAW+JPeg but only processed about 2 ORF files because the E-PL2 jpegs are so nice.

I don't shoots sports, really, and even when I do I never use C-AF so I guess the GH-2 would be just a good there. In fact, I NEVER use C-AF for anything, so i'm not sure the DSLR has much AF advantage for me at all.

This would be an easy choice if I could get a fast (and fast-AF) and sharp telephoto zoom (or even a prime) to replace the 50-200. It doesn't seem like the telephoto zoom options for m4/3 are really in the same class as the 50-200.

I haven't read of anyone out there who has made the jump and then regretted it. So, will anyone talk me out of it?
