Buying a D3s on craigslist

I'm in Houston and there's a used D3s for sale with 70,000 actuations for a very reasonable price. Aside from shooting some shots with some of my lenses, what else would you recommend. Should I insist on being allowed to having it checked out at one of the local repair shops? It's a full thousand less than new.
