TY3i w/kit lens VS T3i w/18-135 lens

I am going to purchase the T3i camera. Their are two kits I am considering. One kit comes with the standard kit lens, and the other is with a 18-135 lens. My question is this: Besides the reach capabilities of the 18-135 lens , is the glass as good as the kit lens or a little better or worse? I also am going to purchase the 50mm prime lens with this in addition. But I just want to know if the glass in the 18-135 lens is as good as the standard kit glass. Any comments would certainly be helpful in making my decision.
