Well, most of the Seagate and Western Digital USB drives I have require that drivers be installed. Drivers most decidedly are not O/S agnostic. (If a drive requires a driver to be functional, then maybe the driver should be supplied on something other than on the hard drive (that you can't see until the driver is installed.) Western Digital, I'm looking at you.)

But yes, external USB drives should be insensitive to the Windows version. And not require drivers. I wish that the drive manufacturers would get that message.

I think I understand now, how this ext hd can possibly 'not' be compatible.
