I agree Canon's DPP is a great program and an especially good value considering it is free. For extra $ DxO Optics goes a step beyond with features like specific lens corrections, great noise reduction, and film effects. I really like the work flow of DxO, but that is a matter of personal preference.

if you like dpp then you have low expectation about the quality of a raw conversion, what is perfectly fine if you are satisfied. there is s areason why its free of charge.

if you get easily impressed by features, dxo will impress you, indeed. but the demoasicing algos are mediocre as well.

if you like quality, are a mac user and will do most of your further work in photoshop, then raw photo processor is the best choice. nearly as good but more convenient: raw developer.
