If IQ is more important to you instead of all other aspects, get the D7000. But hey, you have better IQ also with a D3100.
For me the D300 is still king on DX, a very capable camera and still a good compromise including IQ. Some people talk too much about noise at low ISOs and high noise at ISO 1600+, but probably they didn't try Lightroom 3 to process the RAW files. It does wonders on noise reduction while keeping a great detail.
Errr, you are kidding about the D3100 right?
This would have to be the WORST camera (including any PS cameras) that i have ever used!
