replacement HVL-F7S, HVL-F20S & radio triggering - a sigh!
Dec 15, 2011

Has anybody tried to purchase a "replacement" HVL-F7S (maybe because the original one was lost or misplaced) ? Is it even available as a purchasable item (can't find it)? If so, where is it available, how much does it cost?

Does anybody else think (maybe somebody who knows what he'd be doing (unlike me)) that this is sort of a nice housing to try to hack a radio flash trigger or a (maybe isolated) hotshoe maybe with isolated sync port into? (the hotshoe not to attach a heavy flash, but any purchased radio trigger sender)

Don't own one, but I read in the manual that it's Guide number is 14 - NOT 20 - at least not in the standard position (24mm equivalent coverage) - it is 20 only in the tele position (35mm equivalent coverage) - doesn't really matter that much, but what's up with the mis-leading name?

The sigh:

All the mods shown here on the forum for how to devise a way to radio trigger off camera flashes are great, but really, how much could a little HVL-F7S sized higher quality radio flash trigger that fully works with the bigger Sony flashes (if made by Sony) (or if made by somebody else or if hacked, one that works with whatever radio receiver it's made for) possibly cost? Between $6.50 & $12.50 to to make and $25 to $50 to sell?

But it's a limited market - Sony nex smart accessory port cameras only. And of those only thosse of owners who would like a radio flash option w/o bulky contraptions... but then again, how many of those cameras is Sony selling?
