what I see is the usual show-off of the gear and bad advise just to say the opposite of what others are saying. The OP moved a very reasonable question about the use of a fast prime wide open for a portrait when 2.8 is already more then enough and you get all sort of "people" jumping in saying otherwise , and just because. The truth is that everybody knows how a portrait at 1.2 or 1.4 looks like (and usually a portrait involves heads, with eyes and hair) and a DOF so short to make almost impossible to select the target to get in focus and getting it in the actual shot.

The have no problem with it either. They are also "real" photographers. It seems the problem is limited to you.
