Made in China - what does that mean?
Dec 15, 2011

When Nikon says on the box that the 35mm 1.8G lens was "Made in China", does anyone know with any certainity what that means? (Anyone who works for Nikon on this forum?)

For example, does Made in China mean that the raw materials (optics, electronics, housing, etc.) were sourced in China and the parts were fabricated in China and then assembled in China? Or does that mean that maybe the materials were source from (anywhere in the world?) and fabricated in (Japan?) and then assembled in (China?).

For example, do we think the optics were fabricated in China (or maybe in Japan), etc. etc.?

I realize anyone can guess at this, but does anyone have any first hand knowledge about where the 35mm 1.8G materials came from and how much (some or all) of the lens is fabricated and assembed in China? (Any Nikon manufacturing people around?)

Thanks for any info.
